Kakudō was both an artist and calligrapher. In 1835 he authored a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Kakudō Gafu (i.e., Picture Album by Kakudō) which included the twenty-two pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Kakudō’s true-to-life drawing style was typical of artists influenced by the famous Japanese artist Ōkyo Maruyama.
